R.A.D.

This semester I have been taking a self-defense class through a program called R.A.D. It has been so much fun and the techniques and skills they teach are very helpful and effective. This last Tuesday was our simulation, which is basically our final exam. We had to go through three scenarios. The first is a "walk in the park" where you walk across the room trying to reach the safety zone, but along the way one or two people will attack you and you have to use a hammer fist to get away. The second was where you pretend that you are at an ATM and someone comes and attacks you from behind and in this one you can use any moves you want. Once again you have to get to the safety zone and fend off about three different people along the way. The third scenario they have you walk into the room with your eyes closed and they have a group of people crowd around you and they verbally taunt you and you cannot attack until they grab you, which is when you open your eyes and defend yourself. The third is longer than the other two and you have to fight off more people. To say the least I was really nervous before the test and I was so happy I survived! Everyone was pretty nervous for the first two scenarios, which you do right after each other, but the third one was much better and I was less nervous because I knew what to expect. It was a good experience and really made me have to think on my feet with adrenalin and fear in my head. I highly recommend this program to anyone who is interested!! It was an awesome experience! Here is a picture of my entire class after we had completed simulation. The instructors are the ones in all the gear and equipment that they had to wear for the test. We also had to wear protective equipment.
